Alexandria, Va., Sept. 29, 2006 – THETRADESHOW (Travel Retailing and Destination Expo) partners are pleased to announce the success of THETRADESHOW’s debut in Orlando Sept. 10-12. For three days, more than 4,900 attendees gathered at the Orange County Convention Center for one-on-one business appointments, travel seminars, exhibits and to meet client prospects at Consumer Day. THETRADESHOW reported more than 1,617 travel buyers having attended, as well as 1,340 exhibitors, 1,816 consumers and 141 media and guests.
“THETRADESHOW is a gateway to information about current and future trends of the travel industry,” said William A. Maloney, CTC, ASTA executive vice president and COO. “This type of event is critical to the development and sustainability of travel businesses in the United States and throughout the world. It was truly amazing to see so many professionals in one place, with the same goal in mind—selling travel.”
While the THETRADESHOW offered agents the chance to meet and network with suppliers, it also offered suppliers an opportunity to present their products to agents in new and unique ways, such as The Presentation Pavilions, which hosted more than 1,000 people over three days; industry sessions, which were attended by more than 1,500 people and product seminars, which were attended by more than 600 people. On Sunday alone, educational seminars drew more than 1,200 agents.
There were more than 450 exhibiting companies, with more than 67 countries represented.
Travel agents met with representatives from:
- 103 domestic and international tourist offices
- 79 hotel brands/properties
- 29 cruise lines
- 176 travel & tour companies
- 22 technology firms and
- 61 publications
- 37 air and transportation companies
THETRADESHOW took place Sept. 10-12, 2006 in Orlando and will take place the second week of September every year; even years in Orlando and odd years in Las Vegas (Sept. 9-11, 2007). Formed from the partnership of the leading travel associations, THETRADESHOW included two full days of open floor trade show, business-to-business appointments, a trade and consumer day (Sunday) and two trade only days (Monday and Tuesday). Travel sellers had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with suppliers and gain in-depth information about their products.
