Alexandria, Va., Aug. 10, 2006 –THETRADESHOW (Travel Retailing and Destination Expo) partners are pleased to announce Consumer Day in Orlando Sept. 10, 2006. For one day only, hundreds of travel destinations, resorts, cruise lines, tour operators, airlines, travel specialists and more are gathering to meet consumers interested in travel and adventure. Consumer Day will offer attendees a variety of vacation ideas, an opportunity to sample what each vendor has to offer, and the chance to discover exciting travel deals and work with a travel agent to fulfill their vacation dreams.

“THETRADESHOW partners are especially excited about the opportunity to reach out to everyday travelers and educate the general public about issues, from the latest travel trends to avoiding travel scams,” said William A. Maloney, CTC, American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) executive vice-president and COO. “Consumer Day is THETRADESHOW partners’ way of opening the public’s eyes to all the world has to offer and the importance of using a travel agent. No place else can a person travel the entire world in an afternoon!”

Consumer Day offers a unique, action-packed schedule with insightful speakers featured on THESHOWSTAGE, including Rick Steves, travel writer and host of PBS'' Rick Steves'' Europe; Jeffery Lehmann, producer and host of PBS'' Weekend Explorer (courtesy of TravelVideoStore); and Roger Dow, President & CEO, Travel Industry Association of America.

The Presentation Pavilion includes appearances from Condé Nast Traveler consumer news editor, Wendy Perrin and Jim Donnelly, co-founder and vice president of Marketing, IgoUgo. Additional speakers include J.R. Kelly, director of the Florida Division of Consumer Services, who will talk about ‘Avoiding Travel Scams’; ASTA members Cheryl Hudak, CTC, and Kari Thomas, CTC, will teach consumers to ‘Use a Travel Agent and Save Big’; radio talk show hosts Paul Lasley and Elizabeth Harryman will broadcast their national show live; author and timeshare expert Lisa Ann Schreier will discuss ‘Seven Things Every Consumer Needs to Know About Timeshares’; and award-winning industry expert Stephanie Abrams will share tips on how to make a castle-hopping trip happen without spending too much.

THETRADESHOW Consumer Day is anticipated to attract more than 1,000 people from the Orlando community, as well as tourists visiting the area. Scheduled family activities include rock climbing, international food tasting, a gravity-defying moon bounce for kids, games and prizes.

Alamo Homes Group is giving away free night stays in both Orlando and Costa Rica. THETRADESHOW will take place the second week of September every year and will be held in Orlando (Sept. 10-12, 2006) in even years and Las Vegas (Sept. 9-11, 2007) in odd years. THETRADESHOW will host more than 2,000 travel sellers and 1,000 consumers in just three days at one site. Formed from the partnership of the leading travel associations, THETRADESHOW will include two full days of open floor trade show, business-to-business appointments, a trade and consumer day (Sunday) and two trade only days (Monday and Tuesday). Travel sellers will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with suppliers and to learn in-depth about their products.
